Redhill Estate Vineyard: A 50-Acre English Wine Estate in the Heart of Kent

Redhill Estate Vineyard: A 50-Acre English Wine Estate in the Heart of Kent

Nestled in the rolling Weald of Kent, Redhill Estate Vineyard (also styled Red Hill Farm Estate) is a 50-acre English wine estate that began, as the team like to put it, with a single vine. From that first plant, the estate has grown to cultivate more than 27,000 vines, producing both traditional-method sparkling wines and characterful still wines. The estate is a working, family-rooted vineyard where biodiversity, terroir and minimal intervention winemaking sit at the heart of everything produced.

Located at 337-339 Redhill, Wateringbury, Kent, ME18 5LB, Redhill Estate offers much more than a place to buy wine. Visitors can tour the vines, taste the range, join the wine club, hire the estate for private tours or large groups, and even take part in contract winemaking or seasonal harvest events. The team's philosophy is straightforward: from our vines to our wine we control the process, and encourage the natural aromatics of the grapes to be expressed as a whole.

Where to Find Redhill Estate Vineyard

The estate sits in the heart of Kent, just minutes from the vineyards to the winery so that grapes can be pressed quickly for freshness. The address is:

Redhill Estate Ltd
337-339 Redhill
Wateringbury, Kent
ME18 5LB
United Kingdom

For enquiries, the team can be reached by telephone on +44 (0) 20 3355 3023 (with a second line at 01580 763033, open 8:30am-5pm Monday to Friday, and an event phone line 01622 532369), and by email at hello@redhillestate.com. Sales enquiries go to sales@redhillestate.com and event enquiries to events@redhillestate.com. The team also maintains an active social presence on Facebook and Instagram.

The Story of the Estate

Redhill Estate's own origin story is captured succinctly: It started with one vine. From that first plant the vineyard has expanded across fifty acres of Kent farmland, planted to seven different grape varieties with French, German and Swiss parentage. Each variety has been matched to a particular soil type and grafted onto specific rootstocks to support the terroir and microclimate of its plot. The aim is to let the soil, the aspect and the season do the talking, with the team stepping in as little as possible.

The winemaking approach is similarly low-intervention. Grapes are harvested only when perfectly ripe and are moved from vine to press within the hour, allowing the winery to ferment slowly in stainless steel and rest wines on their lees. Sparkling wines are made on-site in the traditional method, aged on the lees for around three years before riddling, disgorgement and dosage. The result is a range of wines that the team describes as open, expressive and unique - a true expression of the local Kentish terroir.

Visiting Redhill Estate Vineyard

A visit to Redhill Estate is positioned as a great experience and is not to be missed. The estate offers several different ways to explore the vineyard and winery, depending on whether you are a couple, a family, a group of friends, or a corporate party.

Vineyard Tour & Tasting (£35.00 per person)

The signature experience is the Vineyard Tour & Tasting, priced at £35.00. It runs on a clear seasonal schedule:

  • April to September: First and third Saturday of the month, 12pm-1pm.
  • September to April: Last Saturday of the month at 6pm, with a Winery Tour included and the tasting taking place in the barrel room.

Guests are welcomed with a glass of four-year vintage sparkling wine while the hosts introduce the vineyard's history and ethos. The tasting then moves through seven wines - including the renowned Bacchus, Cabernet Noir, Ortega and Rondo - over a barrel in the winery's pressing room. Along the way the winemakers explain the mysteries of riddling, disgorging, lees-ageing and dosage in traditional-method sparkling wines. The whole experience lasts around an hour. Group bookings are available for up to 20 people, and ticket-holders also receive a 20% discount on purchases of six or more bottles from the pop-up shop. An optional cheese platter for two can be added for an extra £22.00 (24 hours' notice required). The tour is for guests aged 18 and over.

Bottle & Blanket Amongst the Vines (£30.00 per booking)

For a more relaxed vineyard experience, the Bottle & Blanket ticket costs £30.00 and runs from May to August on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays, with start times of 12pm or 2pm. Up to six guests are assigned a private row, given a cosy loan blanket and a chilled bottle (with glasses) of the estate's finest still rosé. Upgrades to a still white, red or sparkling Vintage Rosé are available from £3 on the day. On a clear day the south-facing view stretches as far as Scotney Castle, making it one of the most photogenic tasting spots in the Weald. As with the tour, guests also receive a 20% discount on six or more bottles to take home. Age restriction: 18 and over, with cheese platters again available as an optional extra.

Evening Winery Ticket (£40.00)

The Evening Winery Ticket, priced at £40.00, gives access to the barrel-room tastings that form part of the winter Vineyard Tour & Tasting programme (last Saturday of the month at 6pm, September to April). Tickets are redeemable by emailing the order number and booking date to cm@redhillestate.com.

Private Vineyard & Winery Tour (£350.00)

For an exclusive experience, the Private Vineyard and Winery Tour accommodates up to seven guests for £350.00. Slots are flexible, available any time from 9am to 7pm Monday to Thursday (subject to existing bookings). Guests arrange the visit directly with the estate by phone or email.

Group Tour (£500.00)

The Group Tour package is priced at £500.00 and is designed for groups of up to 20 people. As with the private tour, slots are flexible between 9am and 7pm Monday to Thursday. Bookings are made by contacting the estate directly.

Vine Lease (£99.00)

The Vine Lease, at £99.00, is a unique way for wine lovers to feel even more connected to the estate. Rather than a tasting, this experience lets guests lease a section of vineyard and follow their vines through the season.

What to Wear and Accessibility

For tours outside, the estate asks guests to bring sensible closed footwear and attire. Children and teenagers are welcome but, due to licensing laws, the team is unable to serve wine to under-18s. The estate is honest that the vineyard itself is on unstable ground and they do not yet have full facilities for disabled or handicap access, although the terrace bar is wheelchair-accessible. Better facilities are described as a work in progress. Vouchers are valid from the date of purchase until the end of the year.

The Wines

Redhill Estate's range is split across four wine families - sparkling, white, rosé and red - plus a small number of ancillary products and limited-release cuvées. Most wines carry vintage tags, with bottles produced in the 2015, 2016 and 2017 vintages still featuring prominently. The Bottle Shop is the main retail channel, with categories for sparkling wines, white wines, rosé wines and red wines, alongside packaged wines and case deals.

Sparkling Wines

The sparkling programme is built around traditional-method English sparkling wines:

  • 2015 Vintage Brut - £30.00. A 100% English premium blend of 64% Chardonnay and 36% Pinot Noir. Light, slightly golden with a fine bubble and rich mousse; the palate is fresh with citrus fruit, lemongrass and baked apple, finishing dry. Aged on lees for approximately three years. A great apéritif or partner to seafood.
  • 2016 Vintage Blanc de Noir - £50.00. A small vintage of just 650 bottles, made from 100% Pinot Noir. Champagne-like character with ripe fruit, zesty aroma and biscuit, toasty notes. Pairs well with mackerel, duck or mushroom dishes.
  • Rednat - £25.00. A natural-style sparkling red with bright fruit and a soft fizz.
  • Reserve Blush - £45.00. A sparkling reserve blush, currently sold out.
  • Vintage Brut Rosé - £40.00. A 2015 small-vintage sparkling rosé of 68% Pinot Noir and 32% Chardonnay. Salmon pink with fine mousse, lemon sherbet on the nose, and a palate of English strawberry, wild summer berries and honeysuckle. Aged on lees for around three years; suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
  • Vintage Rose - £18.50. A lower-CO2 sparkling rosé with bold Kentish hedgerow fruit and an off-dry palate, reminiscent of an Italian frizzante. Crisp red apples give way to pithy marmalade and grapefruit bitterness with a fine moussey texture.

White Wines

Three whites sit in the core range, all made from estate-grown grapes:

  • Bacchus - £14.00. A 2017 vintage of 100% English Bacchus, the Riesling x Silvaner crossing that is one of England's flagship varieties. Green to gold in colour with elderflower and green fruit on the nose. Medium dry, packed with citrus, gooseberry, melon, lemon and a slight flinty character; well-balanced acidity. 11.5% abv. Pairs with Italian creamy pastas, Asian spices and traditional roast pork. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
  • Ortega - £14.00. A low-sulphur white from 100% Ortega, the German Müller-Thurgau x Siegrrebe hybrid. Golden with a slight spritz, aromas of Muscat and peach, complex and long on the palate. A great aperitif or partner to fish, shellfish, spicy food or a Sunday lunch. 12% abv. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

Rosé Wines

The rosé offering focuses on a single still rosé plus the sparkling rosé releases above:

  • Rondo Rosé - £15.00. Made from 100% English Rondo grapes, the 1964 Czech-bred variety that thrives in clay soils and cool climates. Deceivingly dark for a rosé, with red hedgerow berries on the nose and a creamy strawberry palate. 10.5% abv. A great BBQ wine and a base for an Anglicised Sangria with fruit, orange juice and brandy. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

Red Wines

The red portfolio is small but distinctive, showcasing both well-known Burgundy varieties and the more experimental Cabernet Noir:

  • Estate Red - £20.00. A limited batch from a single block and single ferment, blended from Rondo, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Noir. Ruby red with great clarity, fruity plum and strawberry nose and a medium-bodied palate with mellowed, tannic undertones. 12% abv. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
  • Pinot Noir - £25.00. A 2016 small-batch, single-varietal Pinot Noir, made from the Frühburgunder / Pinot Noir Précoce clone. Garnet core with a ruby rim; sweet toasty nose with ripe raspberry, black cherry and a hint of spice. 13.5% abv. Pairs with creamy dishes, soft cheeses, chicken, rabbit, game birds and pork.
  • Cabernet Noir - £35.00. An extremely limited 2017 release from the Swiss-bred Cabernet Sauvignon hybrid created by Valentin Blattner in 1991. Midnight-dark with aromas of dark fruit, currants, bell pepper and vanilla; full-bodied with ripe damson, black fruit and bell-pepper notes. 13.5% abv. Low-sulphur and suitable for vegetarians. Currently sold out.

Gin and Case Deals

  • Sloe Gin - £20.00. A 2018 vintage estate sloe gin, lovely on its own like a port or mixed into cocktails.
  • Case of Estate Favourites - £99.00 (was £127.50). A 5x 750ml + 2x 500ml mixed case containing the Vintage Brut 2015, Sparkling Rose Fizz Natural 2019, Still Rosé, Bacchus, Ortega, Estate Red, Sloe Gin and an estate apple juice. Subject to availability.

Ancillary Products

The estate also retails a small range of accompaniments and experiences to book alongside the wines:

  • Bottle & Blanket - £30.00. The vineyard booking described in the visit section above.
  • Charcuterie board for two - £22.00. Designed to enjoy on the terrace alongside a tasting.
  • Cellar Club - Annually - £200.00 (was £210.00). The wine club subscription, detailed below.

Cellar Club - The Wine Membership

The Cellar Club is Redhill Estate's quarterly wine membership. Subscribers receive three or four products from the cellar every quarter, accompanied by an invitation to a live, interactive stream with the winemaker. The 60-minute session guides members through how to sip, swirl and taste each wine, with the winemaker sharing what's happening in the vineyard and cellar and bringing the world of English viticulture to life.

Wines range from the Estate Favourites to bottles direct from the bottling line, allowing members to experience the full range of vintages. Quarterly boxes can be collected directly from the vineyard (where possible) or shipped via insured DHL delivery. For the on-site pickup option, members receive up to two complimentary glasses of wine in lieu of the shipping cost. As a welcome, the first delivery includes a voucher for a vineyard and cellar tour for two. Members also receive a 25% discount on each of the wines in the quarterly tasting plus a 10% discount on the rest of the range. Annual subscription: £200.00 (reduced from £210.00). For those looking for a one-off gift, the estate also offers an Annual Gift package including a tour & tasting, six vines and three bottles plus 20% off a case of wines.

Trade and Contract Winemaking

Beyond the consumer range, Redhill Estate operates a small but professional contract winemaking service for other vineyards, retailers and trade clients.

White Label and Custom Production

The estate works with venues and distributors on white-label to custom production for both domestic and export markets. Trade enquiries are handled by phone and email.

Contract Winemaking Services

Redhill Estate's winery is equipped with the latest technology, including temperature-controlled tanks, a beaterless destemmer, a cross-flow filter, a fully automated bottling and finishing line and a semi-automatic disgorging line. Two tiers of contract winemaking are offered:

  • 0.5 to 1.5 tonnes of fruit. Co-op fermentation of white and sparkling wines, processing the client's fruit alongside other local growers to produce a certified PGI wine. Pricing starts at around £3.50 ex per bottle for a still wine and £6.50 ex per bottle for a sparkling wine.
  • 1.5 tonnes of fruit or more. Single-batch PDO / PGI wine production to the client's specification, starting at around £5 ex per bottle for a still wine and £8.50 ex per bottle for a sparkling wine.

Rates are described as competitive, and tailored quotes are available on request.

Working With Redhill Estate

For those who would rather get their hands dirty than simply drink the result, Redhill Estate runs a volunteers and opportunities programme. The estate describes it as a great place to work - an opportunity to learn technical skills in a therapeutic environment through a variety of casual work and experiences throughout the year.

Seasonal Roles

  • Pruning (January - March). Learn and practise pruning on vines, either 1-to-1 or in a group. Training covers cutting techniques, structure and how pruning affects plant growth, training and crop management - skills that can be applied to a range of trellised plants.
  • Winemaking (November - April). Hands-on experience making English wine, including tasting musts and wines in process and understanding the challenges of winemaking.
  • Summer Work (June - September). Casual and flexible vineyard work such as leaf stripping, tucking in or bud rubbing. Nothing strenuous - just easy, fun outdoor jobs.
  • Picking (September - October). Join the harvest. Early starts and late finishes are offset with coffee, a good breakfast and a hearty meal afterwards. Pickers experience the hustle of harvest, how bunches are selected for fine English wines, and can try fresh grape juice if they're on the press.

Permanent Positions

For longer-term roles, the estate lists Apprentice / Junior Winery Technician positions (full time or for harvest only) covering packaging and stock management, with assistance and delegation of winemaking responsibilities. Vineyard, retail and sales experience is desirable. Apprentice positions in Horticulture or Marketing are also listed as open to applicants.

Requirements for all roles include own transport, warm clothing and wellies.

Events at the Estate

An events calendar keeps visitors up to date with vineyard happenings, and subscription is available via Google Calendar, iCalendar, Outlook 365 or Outlook Live, with .ics file export. As of summer 2026, the calendar lists past events rather than upcoming ones, including:

  • Harvest Dinner - 15 September 2023, 6:30pm-10pm, £150 per ticket. Guests were welcomed with a sparkling wine cocktail on reception. (Event page.)
  • Vineyard Tour & Tasting - 18 March 2023, 12pm-1:30pm, £19.99 per ticket. (Event page.)

Both events were held at the estate's address (337 Redhill, Wateringbury, Kent, ME185LB).

All wine and alcohol orders are age-restricted. By placing an order the customer confirms they are at least 18 years old, and the estate operates a "Challenge 25" policy at point of delivery.
