Wressle Vineyard: Award-Winning Family-Run English Wines from North Lincolnshire

Tucked into the gentle countryside of North Lincolnshire, Wressle Vineyard is a family-run English wine estate that has quietly become one of the most exciting boutique producers in the Midlands and North. Planted in 2020 by Marie and Chris, the vineyard is a true family affair, nurtured by hand from bare rows of vines to bottles of award-winning still and sparkling wine. Every bottle carries a sense of place: the chalky minerality of the local soils, the soft North Lincolnshire light, and a fiercely low-intervention philosophy that lets the fruit speak for itself.

The Wressle Vineyard Story

Wressle Vineyard is, first and foremost, a family story. Marie and Chris took the leap to plant the vineyard in 2020, but it has always been a true family effort. What began as carefully marked rows in open Lincolnshire land quickly became early mornings in muddy boots, long evenings watching the weather, and a shared dream growing stronger with every season.

Liz, the family's Vineyard Manager, is the heart of the vines. She knows every row, every block, and every subtle change in leaf and fruit. Through frost alerts, pruning seasons and harvest days, she cares for the vineyard with patience and pride, ensuring each vintage reflects the land at its very best. As a family-run English vineyard, the team are hands-on in everything they do, from walking the vines to choosing the wine names and approving every label. There are no shortcuts at Wressle, just hard work, resilience and a genuine love for what they are building.

Every wine name in the range is inspired by the wildlife that shares the land at Wressle: the squirrels, deer, owls, herons, kingfishers, pheasants and foxes that are part of daily life on the vineyard. The labels reflect the countryside setting, a warm sense of humour and the joy of creating wines that bring people together.

From Tuscany to Plumpton College to Wressle

The winemaking journey at Wressle Vineyard began under the masters of Tuscany, where the family learned the art and practice of European winemaking. That passion was then refined through the technical excellence of Plumpton College, the UK's leading centre for wine education. Today, Wressle combines traditional European artistry with local Lincolnshire passion to produce a limited selection of high-quality, seasonal vintages.

Sustainable Viticulture from Soil to Sip

Wressle Vineyard believes the best wines are grown, not manufactured. By practising low-intervention viticulture and utilising natural fertilisers wherever possible, the team ensures that the vines thrive with the minimum of chemicals. This commitment to sustainability is not just better for the land; it produces a cleaner, more vibrant expression of the fruit in the glass.

  • Hand-harvested grapes with the help of dedicated family and friends from the local area.
  • Minimal use of chemicals and additives.
  • Natural fertilisers used wherever possible.
  • A carefully curated selection of cool-climate grape varieties chosen for the Lincolnshire climate.

The Grape Varieties

Wressle works with a tight, considered palette of grape varieties that thrive in the cooler English climate:

  • Muscaris - a fragrant, aromatic variety producing floral whites.
  • Phoenix - a German cross prized for crisp, citrus-driven whites and sparkling base wines.
  • Rondo - a hardy red-skinned variety used for deeply coloured rosés and reds.
  • Pinot Noir - the classic Champagne variety, used here for still red, white and rosé wines, plus a touch in the sparkling blend.
  • Madeleine Angevine - blended with Pinot Noir in the new 2025 Giddy Goose white.

The Wressle Vineyard Wine Range

Wressle produces a handful of high-quality vintages that change from season to season. The current collection includes fourteen wines, almost all priced at £15.00 per 750ml bottle, with one sparkling white at £25.00 and a Two Wine Gift Box at £36.00. Every wine is vegetarian and vegan-friendly.
