Aldwick Estate: Five Generations, Eleven Acres, One Somerset Vineyard

Aldwick Estate: Five Generations, Eleven Acres, One Somerset Vineyard

Tucked into the south-facing slopes at the foot of the Mendip Hills in North Somerset, Aldwick Estate is a family-run vineyard that has been farmed by the same family since 1905. What began as mixed farmland became a vineyard in 2008, when the first vines went into the ground. Today, eleven acres of vines spread across two parcels, six grape varieties are tended by hand, and around 22,000 bottles of English wine are pressed and bottled on the Mendips each year. The estate is also a working venue for weddings, private parties, corporate away days, public tours and a much-loved Christmas fair.

The team is small, the welcome is personal, and the philosophy is simple: from our family to yours. Whether you arrive for a tasting flight at the cellar door, to walk the rows with the wine team, or to plan the biggest day of your life, you will be looked after personally - the family would not have it any other way.

The Wines

All Aldwick wines are pressed and bottled on the Mendips by master winemaker Steve Brooksbank. The current cellar-door and online selection is sold through the dedicated shop at aldwickwine.com, and includes three estate wines that show off both the still and sparkling sides of the Somerset terroir.

2021 Seyval Jubilaté - Sparkling

A light-hearted English sparkling wine, full of zest and fun. Seyval Blanc is one of the most reliable cool-climate varieties in the south-west, and the Jubilaté cuvée is built for celebration. Buy the 2021 Seyval Jubilaté.

2023 BS40 - Still White

A crisp, easy-drinking blend of white grapes grown on the estate. The BS40 is the everyday bottle of the range - the kind of wine you want in the fridge for golden-hour evenings on the lawn. Buy the 2023 BS40.

2021 Brut Rosé - Sparkling Rosé

Pinot Noir fizz with a pink blush. The Brut Rosé is the most food-friendly bottle in the line-up and a popular choice for toasts. Buy the 2021 Brut Rosé.

Weddings at Aldwick

Aldwick Estate has hosted weddings for fifteen years, and the team works on one wedding at a time - meaning the barns, the courtyard, the gardens and the two vineyards are entirely yours from when you arrive to when you leave. The estate is fully licensed for ceremonies, with two licensed ceremony spaces and a small, experienced team that stays with you from the first walk-around to the last dance under the festoons.

The Spaces

  • New Barn: Newly refurbished, with capacity for 200 guests. The flagship space for larger celebrations.
  • Old Barn: A converted oak-frame barn seating up to 140 guests, full of warmth and character.
  • Vineyard Ceremony: A hand-crafted oak gazebo nestled at the foot of the Mendips in the Homefield Vineyard - vows among the vines with the Mendip Hills as the backdrop.

Food and Wine

Catering is led by the estate's partners, Epic Caterers, who will help you design menus around the day. The estate wines you have chosen are poured by the Aldwick team, and everything in between is taken care of.

Wedding Enquiries

Couples can start the conversation by sharing a little about the day they are imagining; the team replies within two working days with availability and a starting price. Explore weddings or reserve a viewing slot via the live calendar.

Wedding Open Day - 6 September 2026

The estate runs regular Wedding Open Days where couples can wander the barns and grounds, meet the team and trusted suppliers, and picture their own day at Aldwick. The next Open Day is on Sunday 6 September 2026, 11:00 - 15:00, with free entry. Reserve a place.

Wine Tours & Tastings

The Aldwick tour is the most direct way to get to know the estate. Walk the rows with a member of the wine team - the same people who tend the vines and make the wines - and finish at the cellar door for a tutored tasting. The tour covers the history of the family farm, how the vineyard came to be planted in 2008, what each of the six grape varieties brings to the bottle, and how the wines end up in your glass.

How to Book

Tours run from April to October each year and start from £22.50 per person. Live availability can be booked online - pick a date and the team will hold your place. Visitors can also:

Tours make a popular gift, a relaxed weekend activity and a strong add-on for any guests travelling to a wedding at the estate.

Private Parties

Big birthdays, anniversaries, retirement dos and just-because summer gatherings all fit naturally into the Aldwick calendar. Like weddings, private parties are hosted one at a time, so the barns, the lawns and the courtyard are entirely yours from mid-morning until midnight.

The Party Spaces

  • The Barns: Long-table dinners under the oak frame, candlelit, seating up to 180.
  • The Courtyard: Cobbles, olive trees and festoon lights - the natural spot for arrival drinks and canapés.
  • The Vineyard: Golden-hour drinks between the rows, with the Mendips beyond and estate wine in hand.

Hosts can bring their own caterer, band or DJ, or lean on the estate's list of trusted local suppliers. The Aldwick team pours the wines and looks after everything in between.

Enquiries go through the parties page; the team replies within two working days with availability and a starting price.

Corporate Away Days

Aldwick is a popular setting for company away days, client entertaining and product launches - anywhere that benefits from trading fluorescent lights for rolling farmland. The estate hosts one company at a time, and the barns and pergola are wired for AV, served by the estate kitchen and a short walk from eleven acres of vines.

Four Shapes of Day

  • Strategy off-sites: Full-day private hire of the barn or pergola with breakouts on the lawn and a vineyard walk to clear the head.
  • Team away days: Wine blending, harvest experiences and long shared lunches that turn colleagues into friends.
  • Client entertaining: Private tastings led by the winemaker, with the option to add a vineyard dinner to remember.
  • Product launches: A camera-ready setting that does the heavy lifting - barns, vines and the Mendips behind.

Both full-day and half-day formats are available all year round. Hosts bring their own facilitator or borrow the estate's; the Aldwick team handles the food, the wine and the in-between. Sample agendas, room dimensions, menus and rates can be downloaded as a brochure.

Aldwick Estate is more than a vineyard - it is a working Somerset farm that happens to make very good English wine, and that opens its gates, barns and gardens to anyone with a reason to gather. Five generations in, the family is still here, the vines are still being planted and tended by hand, and the welcome is exactly the same: from our family to yours.
