A New Boutique Vineyard with Roots in Balance
Nestled in the rolling countryside just outside Salisbury, Liba Vineyard is one of the most exciting new boutique wine projects in the south of England. Set on a ten-acre smallholding at Porton in Wiltshire, the family-run estate combines a young biodynamic vineyard with three luxury woodland glamping pods, all within a stone's throw of Stonehenge. The name "Liba" captures the philosophy at the heart of the project: rooted in the land, crafted with balance.
What makes Liba distinct is its commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture from day one, its focus on modern disease-resistant hybrid grape varieties rather than the classic European workhorses, and its ambition to build a complete vineyard experience rather than simply producing wine. Today the vineyard is still maturing, but the doors are already open for guests who want to stay among the vines.
The Story Behind Liba
The story of Liba begins not in a vineyard but in central London. After more than a decade of city jobs, the founders began to feel the pull of the countryside. They wanted more space, more time outdoors, and a way of working that could give something back. A short trip to West Sussex during the Covid pandemic planted a seed: a biodynamic vineyard paired with luxury glamping.
Despite limited practical experience beyond a love of good wine, the family spent almost two years searching for the right site. In May 2023 they finally uprooted their lives, with a six-month-old baby in tow, and moved to a ten-acre smallholding in the Wiltshire countryside. The farmhouse at Field Farm came with a near-perfect four-acre field for vines: gently sloping, south-west facing, with flint-rich chalk-based soils that English winemakers dream of. The remaining three acres of mixed woodland provided the perfect setting for guest accommodation.
Almost two years on, the family has hand-planted nearly 4,000 vines, installed three high-spec glamping pods among the trees, welcomed a second child into the world, acquired a small herd of alpacas (a useful source of organic fertiliser) and what they describe as "a ridiculous number of peacocks". Two local businesses, a yoga studio and a willow weaving workshop, now also operate from the barns on the farm.
The Vineyard and Biodynamic Farming
From the very beginning, organic and biodynamic management was a non-negotiable. The vineyard is not just a business; it is the family home. The thought of donning a hazmat suit to spray pesticides, herbicides and synthetic fertilisers around the place they were raising their children was never an option. Instead, the team works in partnership with the land, supporting the diverse wildlife and wildflowers that share the farm.
To grow high-quality grapes without resorting to chemicals, the founders selected four modern, disease-resistant hybrid varieties that are well suited to the cooler, damper British climate:
- Cabaret Noir - a red hybrid bred for disease resistance and good colour.
- Sauvignac - a white hybrid known for aromatic, fresh wines.
- Calardis Blanc - another disease-resistant white, valued for elegance.
- Solaris - a popular German-bred hybrid that thrives in northern Europe.
These varieties were chosen specifically because they allow the vineyard to farm without conventional sprays while still producing a full spectrum of wines, from sparkling rosé through to still reds. The four-acre vineyard was planted in May 2024 and Liba is currently in Demeter conversion, the certification scheme for biodynamic farming, with full accreditation expected in time for the first commercial release.
The Winery Dream
The winemaking journey has already begun, albeit in unromantic circumstances. In early December 2024, just two weeks after the birth of the family's second child and in the middle of a Met Office red-warning storm, the founders drove a rented lorry down to Southampton to collect a complete set of pre-loved winery equipment. The vineyard does not yet have its own grapes to vinify, so the team is heading back to school to learn their craft, with the first Liba vintage expected in a couple of years.
Stay at Liba: Woodland Glamping Pods
While the vines mature, guests can already experience Liba by staying in one of three luxury glamping pods tucked into the woodland at the edge of the vineyard. Each pod sleeps up to four guests, comes with a wood-fired hot tub, a fully equipped kitchenette, a separate bedroom with a double bed, a sofa bed in the living room, a luxury en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower, and a private outdoor seating area with fire pit.
The pods are fully insulated for year-round use and stocked with luxury bedding, towels and eco-friendly toiletries. WiFi is included, and well-behaved dogs (limited to one per pod) are welcome. Free-range alpacas and peacocks live nearby, so dogs must be kept on leads.
All three pods are available to book from £139 per night, and each offers panoramic views out across the woodland to the vineyard beyond. Reservations are taken online.
Elder Glamping Pod
Elder is one of three nearly identical pods, set among the towering trees with vineyard views. Like Beech and Hawthorn, it includes a double bed, sofa bed, kitchenette, luxury en-suite, WiFi and a private wood-fired hot tub. View Elder.
Beech Glamping Pod
Beech offers the same spacious layout and finishes as the other pods, with a wood-fired hot tub and fire pit on the private deck looking out across the biodynamic vineyard. View Beech.

House Rules and Practical Information
Liba's policies have been thoughtfully designed to protect both guests and the natural environment of the farm. Some key points are worth flagging before you book.
- Check-in / check-out: Check-in is from 16:00, check-out by 10:00. Early check-in and late check-out upgrades may be available for a small surcharge.
- Hot tubs: Should be vacated by 23:00 in line with the noise policy. Children under 5 are not permitted; older children must always be supervised. Glass is not allowed in the tubs.
- Firewood: Only kiln-dried firewood supplied by Liba may be used; one bundle is included, with extras available for a small fee. Foraging wood from the woodland is prohibited and burning unsuitable wood can damage the stoves, potentially resulting in a £250 service fee.
- Pets: Well-behaved dogs (max one per pod) are welcome but must be kept on leads and off the furniture. No dogs in the hot tubs.
- Smoking and vaping: All pods are non-smoking and non-vaping and are fitted with sensitive smoke detectors. Smoking or vaping inside will trigger a £250 cleaning fee. Smoking is permitted only in the private outdoor seating areas.
- Quiet hours: 23:00 - 07:00. Music should be kept to a low volume.
- Visitors: Up to four visitors per pod may be brought on site between 11:00 and 20:00.
- Luggage: The team is happy to store luggage on arrival or departure days, though responsibility remains with the owner.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellations made more than 14 days before check-in receive a full refund. Cancellations made between 48 hours and 14 days before check-in receive a partial refund. Cancellations within 48 hours of check-in are non-refundable. Free date amendments are available up to 48 hours before check-in, subject to availability.

What's Next for Liba
Liba is still in its infancy. The first commercial vintage is still a couple of years away, and the team is keen to add more experiences once the vineyard is fully established. Plans on the horizon include vineyard tours, tastings, more glamping experiences and the first bottles of biodynamic English wine from the Cabaret Noir, Sauvignac, Calardis Blanc and Solaris grapes planted in 2024.
