Soloms Court Wine Estate: A Boutique Surrey Hills Vineyard Crafting English Pinot Noir

A Historic Surrey Hills Estate with a Modern Viticultural Vision

Nestled within the rolling chalk and sandstone hills of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Soloms Court Wine Estate represents one of England's most intriguing new wine ventures. The estate combines more than a century of architectural heritage with a forward-thinking commitment to sustainable viticulture, producing small-lot English wines from carefully managed estate vines. For wine lovers seeking to discover the next chapter of the English wine success story, Soloms Court offers a compelling destination just 20 miles south of London.

From Stately Home to Working Vineyard

Soloms Court was designed in 1905 by the distinguished English architect Sir Edward Guy Dawber, who created the property as a stately home for a London financier seeking a refined country retreat. For more than 120 years the estate has remained in private hands, serving as a family home across generations and undergoing a major restoration to its original grandeur in the 1990s. While the architectural pedigree and historic landscape have been carefully preserved, the modern custodians of Soloms Court have added a new chapter to the estate's story: the planting of a vineyard dedicated to the production of high-quality, eco-conscious English wine.

The vineyard at Soloms Court was established in 2022, with a focused objective to produce still wines of the highest quality using environmentally responsible methods. The team has chosen to concentrate on Pinot Noir, a variety that has proven its capacity to produce world-class wines across the cooler climates of Burgundy, Oregon, and increasingly across southern England.

The Terroir: Ancient Woodland, Chalk Soils, and a 150-Metre Vista

Soloms Court sits at an elevation of 150 metres above sea level, cradled within an ancient woodland ecosystem that lends the vineyard a uniquely protected microclimate. The surrounding woodlands provide natural shelter and biodiversity that supports the vineyard's ecological approach, while the elevation offers both excellent air drainage and one of the estate's most distinctive features: sweeping views across the Central London skyline. It is a rare English vineyard where the morning mist may rise over vines with the distant silhouette of the capital visible on the horizon.

The soils of the Surrey Hills share the same chalky lime and sandstone geology that has made the Champagne region of France world-famous. This geological kinship is no accident; it is one of the key reasons the North Downs have emerged as a leading terroir for premium English sparkling and still wines. Soloms Court benefits directly from this mineral-rich, free-draining substrate, which contributes to the precision, freshness, and structure that characterise the estate's wines.

The Wines of Soloms Court

Elise 2025 Pinot Noir Rosé: An Inaugural Vintage

Soloms Court's inaugural release is the Elise 2025, a still rosé produced from estate-grown Pinot Noir. Named after the daughter of the house, Elise 2025 is described as an elegant and finely poised expression of English Pinot Noir Rosé, defined by its purity, precision, and remarkable length on the palate.

In the glass, Elise 2025 reveals delicate notes of wild raspberry, cranberry, and strawberry and cream that unfold across the palate. These fruit characters are balanced by a vibrant freshness and a refined mineral structure that carries through to a long, graceful finish - a clear reflection of both the cool 2025 vintage and the careful stewardship of the vineyard team.

Production was deliberately kept to an extremely limited volume from the estate's first harvest, and the wine was offered in strictly limited quantities by the case. Each case contains six bottles, equivalent to £30 plus VAT per bottle, with the full case priced at £216.00 GBP. The inaugural vintage is sold out direct from the estate, with remaining stock available exclusively through the estate's curated local partners: The Grape Variety in Chipstead and Café Chai in Banstead.
