Location and Setting

Deer Park Wines sits on Bredon Hill, a landmark limestone outcrop rising between Pershore and Tewkesbury on the border of Worcestershire and Gloucestershire. The vineyard is based at Woollas Farm, Woollas Hill, Eckington, Pershore, Worcestershire WR10 3DN, with the parent estate - Deer Park Hall - hosting the tasting room, Bredon Room, Oak Pavilion, wedding venue and business centre.

The estate is approximately six miles from Junction 9 of the M5 and roughly 45 minutes from Birmingham International Airport, making it one of the most accessible Cotswold-edge vineyards for day-trippers from the Midlands, Bristol and the South West.

A Family Farm with Three Generations of History

Although the vines are young, the land itself has been farmed by the same family for three generations. The traditional mixed farm combines arable cropping with cattle, sheep and a herd of fallow deer, alongside woodland, natural grass meadows, and a lake. From the top of Bredon Hill the views stretch west to the Malvern Hills, and the wider landscape is layered with archaeology: a Woodhenge, a Roman Fort and Bronze Age settlements lie within the fields around the vineyard - a reminder that this is ancient countryside.

Today, the farm and winery are owned and run by Mark Steele, who studied Biology at Oxford University before taking on the family farm. Alongside his wife Caron, Mark developed the wider Deer Park estate into a wedding venue, conference centre and business centre, and - drawing on his involvement with several local wine societies - founded the vineyard visitors enjoy today.

The Vineyards and Terroir

All grapes used in Deer Park Wines are grown exclusively on the estate. The first vines were planted in 2016 and the vineyard now totals around 5,000 vines across three plots, all benefiting from the Cotswold brash limestone soils that define Bredon Hill's terroir.

• Plot One - Stag Oak: the largest vineyard with roughly 4,000 vines, sited close to the farm buildings. A loam soil overlying limestone sits in a natural sun trap around 50 metres above sea level, sheltered from the wind to give the grapes a perfect ripening environment.
• Plot Two: planted in 2018, this smaller block of around 1,400 vines sits on a steep south-facing slope at the entrance to the village of Great Comberton.
• Plot Three: the third plot completes the trio of Cotswold limestone sites, contributing additional complexity to the wines.

The original planting included Pinot Noir, Bacchus, Solaris, Seyval Blanc, Reichensteiner and Chardonnay. Over time, the team has found that their site is warm enough to ripen varieties that usually struggle at this English latitude - particularly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay - so these have been expanded, while Solaris and Seyval Blanc, which prefer cooler sites, have been reduced.

The Wines

Deer Park's range is built around a still-wine backbone of Bacchus, Solaris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, a blended Special Reserve and a Rosé, with two traditional-method sparkling wines - Classic Cuvée and Rosé Cuvée - sitting alongside. Several wines have won Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) medals, putting them on the same podium as top French houses.

Still Wines

• Bacchus - £17.00: a dry, aromatic white made exclusively from estate Bacchus grapes. Notes of soft citrus and elderflower on the nose, with apple, apricot and a well-defined mineral finish. The current release is the 2023 vintage. A great aperitif or match for smoked salmon, fish and light chicken dishes.
• Solaris - £20.00: the 2024 vintage of this 100% Solaris white reaches 13.5% ABV with ripe pear and apricot aromas, bright harmonious acidity and a gentle touch of oak adding depth and structure. Pair with poultry or creamy blue cheeses; quantities are extremely limited.
• Chardonnay 2022 - £17.00: a crisp, clean Chardonnay with notes of melon, apple and lime. A refreshing, food-friendly white that punches well above its price tag.
• Special Reserve - £17.00: a blended white made from the estate's best grapes. Aromatic tropical fruit on the nose with melon, sweet grapefruit and a hint of pineapple on the palate, supported by gentle acidity and minerality. Now selling the 2022 vintage.
• Stag Oak Reserve 2022 - £28.00: a lightly oaked Chardonnay blend and DWWA 2024 Silver Medal winner (90/100 points). Round, creamy and butterscotch-rich with pear, peach, yellow apple and citrus, finished with vanilla and toasted oak. Currently listed as out of stock.
• Pinot Noir 2022 - £34.00: a DWWA 2024 Silver Medal winner and the highest-scoring English Pinot Noir of its vintage, named by Decanter in the top 50 Pinots worldwide (91/100). Bright red cherry and subtle herbal character, a lick of pepper and good savoury length.
• Rosé 2023 - £17.00: a Pinot Noir (85%) and Chardonnay (15%) blend and DWWA Bronze Medal winner. A complex nose of cheesecake, English summer fruits and strawberries evolving into grapefruit and stone fruits, with a long soft finish.

• Classic Cuvée (Sparkling) - £33.00: an English sparkling wine made in the traditional method. The 2021 vintage delivers notes of toast and fresh exotic fruits with a fine mousse, a lasting finish and hints of toasted brioche.
• Rosé Cuvée (Sparkling) - £33.00: the 2021 vintage of this sumptuous sparkling rosé, 12% ABV, with strawberries, cream and brioche on the nose and a fine mousse dancing on the palate.

Tours and Tastings

Deer Park Wines runs year-round vineyard tours and tastings that begin with a walk through the Stag Oak vineyard - bordered by the deer park and lake - and finish at Deer Park Hall in the Bredon Room, Gardens or Oak Pavilion (weather dependent). All standard tours include a 10% discount off the first case of six bottles purchased on the day.

Grape to Glass Wine Tour & Tasting - £35.00 per person

The signature Grape to Glass experience lasts around two hours (anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours depending on group size) and includes:

Grape to Glass Wine Tour, Tasting & Food - £47.00 per person

The food-enhanced tour adds a locally curated cheese and charcuterie platter - hard and soft cheeses, sliced meats, bread and butter - to the vineyard walk and tasting flight of the Classic Cuvée plus three still wines. Guests are asked to flag any dietary requirements at least two days ahead; the kitchen handles nut products and items may be substituted subject to availability.

English Safari - £40.00 per person

The English Safari is a private, six-seater Ranger tour through the wider 1,300-acre Deer Park estate, looking out for red and fallow deer, roe deer, muntjac, foxes, buzzards, red kites, ravens, pheasants and kestrels, alongside Hereford cattle, sheep, historic landmarks and panoramic views from the top of Bredon Hill. Tours last just over an hour, with a minimum of two and maximum of four guests. Vouchers are valid for six months; bookings are taken by calling 07795566966.

Christmas Wreath Making - £60.00 per person

Run in partnership with Renata of The Fairy Florist, the Christmas Wreath Making workshop is a festive hands-on session using locally sourced evergreen foliage, seed heads, dried fruit, leaves and berries. The price includes a welcome glass of award-winning sparkling English wine, a fully tutored class, the bar for top-ups throughout, and a discount on any wine orders placed on the day. All materials are included and no experience is necessary.

Beyond the tours and tastings, Deer Park Wines runs a rolling calendar of public events at the estate. Highlights include:

• Sundowner Pop-Up Nights: a recurring evening event held at Deer Park Hall (WR10 3DN) from 5:00pm to 9:30pm. Sit among the deer at sunset with a glass of your favourite tipple and a rotating roster of street-food traders. The full bar serves an extensive Gin Bar plus Hawkstone and Purity beers alongside the award-winning wines. No booking required, no entry fee - just pay for what you eat and drink.
• Bredon Wine Festival: the flagship summer event, held annually in mid-July.
