Secret Valley Vineyard, Somerset: A Working Vineyard, Glamping and Wedding Venue in One

Secret Valley is a 400-acre family-run estate tucked into the Quantock Hills above Bridgwater, in the Somerset countryside. Although it is best known to most visitors as a glamping and wedding venue, the estate is also home to a working vineyard, and the wine produced from those vines is offered to guests staying on site. The combination of vineyard, two lakes, ancient woodland, glamping, a lakeside ceremony island and two restored barns makes Secret Valley one of the most distinctive countryside destinations in the West Country.

The estate at a glance

  • 400 acres of private Somerset countryside
  • Two secluded lakes and a spring-fed swimming lake
  • Working vineyard on the valley slopes
  • 30 unique glamping units across six paddocks
  • Two event barns: the Quantock Barn and the Owl Barn
  • 15 minutes from the M5 (Junction 24), 8 miles from Taunton Station
  • Approximately 2 hours from London by car, 1 hour 40 minutes by train to Taunton plus a 15-minute transfer

Where Secret Valley Is and How to Get There

Secret Valley sits at Cobbs Cross Farm, Goathurst, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA5 2DN. The postcode covers a setting that feels far from anywhere, despite being one of the most accessible countryside venues in the South West. Major routes into the estate are:

  • 15 minutes from the M5 at Junction 24
  • 8 miles from Taunton railway station
  • Under 1 hour from Bristol and Exeter
  • 2.5 hours from London by car via the M4 and M5
  • 1 hour 40 minutes from London Paddington to Taunton by train, plus a 15-minute transfer
  • 30 minutes from Bristol, 45 minutes from Bath, 1 hour from Cardiff, 2.5 hours from Birmingham

The wider location in the Quantocks places the Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the doorstep, with Fyne Court, Kilve Beach, Dunster Castle, the West Somerset Railway, Hestercombe Gardens, Enmore Park Golf Club and The Tynte Arms all within easy reach by car. A dedicated local area guide covers timings and links for each.

The Vineyard

The vineyard sits on the valley slopes and is the source of Secret Valley's own-label wine. Eight of the site's 20 wigwams are set in the vineyard paddock, with views across the rows of vines, and the Shepherd's Huts are described as offering "vineyard views". Wine produced on the estate is included as a complimentary welcome in the Lodges and the Shepherd's Huts, and £200 of complimentary Secret Valley wine is included with Quantock Barn wedding bookings. Additional bottles of the estate's wine can be requested for weddings and group stays, and the house wines are available "on tap" from the cellars. Wine, cider, logs, coal, bedding, marshmallows and BBQ food are all listed as items that can be bought on site alongside the accommodation.

Visitors who want to walk among the vines and learn about the enterprise can join Farmer John's Farm Tour, a guided 1.5 to 2 hour walk around the farm and vineyard that includes games, surprises and a wine tasting at the end with panoramic views across the valley. The tour is popular with both adults and children and requires a minimum of 10 people.

A Family Business Through Generations

Secret Valley has been in the same family for generations. Each generation has brought its own expertise to the estate, layering traditional farming heritage with the modern glamping and events business that the estate is known for today. The current owners describe it as a "working farm, a quiet party" - genuinely rural in character, with the discipline of a commercial events venue underneath.

The estate is a recognised sustainability-led working farm with a nature-led ethos, and the entire 400 acres can be booked on an exclusive-use basis for weddings, corporate retreats, family reunions and large private celebrations.

Glamping Accommodation

The estate offers 30 individual glamping units, split across six accommodation styles and several paddocks. All units are open seasonally from the end of March to the end of October.

Weddings at Secret Valley

Secret Valley hosts only a handful of weddings each year. From Friday midday to Sunday, the gates close behind the couple and the entire 400-acre valley is reserved exclusively for the wedding party. The venue is offered on a dry-hire basis, which means couples bring their own caterers, suppliers, drinks and ideas - there is no rulebook, no corkage fee, and no in-house caterer to negotiate around.

The wedding weekend shape

  • Friday: Arrivals from midday, accommodation check-in, dressing the barn, welcome drinks and firepit supper
  • Saturday: Lakeside or barn ceremony, drinks and canapés on the lawns, wedding breakfast in the Quantock Barn, evening dancing and firepits under the stars
  • Sunday: Slow morning, breakfast with guests, walks around the lake, departures at leisure

The spaces

The Quantock Barn is the main reception space: a wooden-clad, blank-canvas barn with a permanent pleated marquee lining, round tables, chiavari chairs, full AV, a large commercial kitchen and 273 m² of floor space that comfortably seats up to 200 guests.

The Owl Barn is the smaller, more intimate venue: oak beams, stone-faced walls, a single chandelier, capacity for 20 - 25 boardroom-style or up to 30 for a relaxed gathering. It is often used for the Friday-night rehearsal supper, the bridal party preparation, and a slow Sunday brunch.

Ceremonies are typically held on the lakeside island, a natural amphitheatre of green with the entire valley as a backdrop. The island itself is not currently licensed for civil ceremonies; most couples complete the legal paperwork separately with the local registrar and then hold a celebrant-led ceremony on the island or in the barn. The rain plan is built in: the Quantock Barn offers 300 m² of indoor space with the marquee lining as standard, so ceremonies, dinners and dancing can all move inside without losing atmosphere.

Wedding packages and 2026 pricing

Two package structures are published for 2026, each with high-season (July, August and early September, including bank holidays) and low-season (April, May, June, late September and October) rates, and weekend and midweek (Tuesday or Wednesday) variations.

Quantock Barn & Lakeside (the upper tier)

  • Weekend, High Season: £6,250
  • Midweek, High Season: £5,250
  • Weekend, Low Season: £5,750
  • Midweek, Low Season: £4,750

Includes exclusive use of the whole valley, the lakeside island ceremony space, all grounds, the Quantock Barn with roof lining, the commercial kitchen, and on-site glamping for 60+ guests.

Quantock Barn alone (the lower tier)

  • Weekend, High Season: £6,000
  • Midweek, High Season: £5,000
  • Weekend, Low Season: £5,500
  • Midweek, Low Season: £4,500

Includes exclusive use of the Quantock Barn, the kitchen, all grounds for photography, and the roof lining as standard.

A £200 contribution of complimentary Secret Valley wine is included with Quantock Barn bookings; Owl Barn is included free for Quantock Barn weddings; a £300 security deposit is taken in advance and refunded within five days after the wedding if there are no damages. Wedding insurance is required to a minimum of £2,000,000 public liability, and security cover from approximately 6pm to 1am is arranged at the booker's expense (a typical cost cited is £210). Real candles are not permitted anywhere on site; LED or battery alternatives are welcomed.

Accommodation for the wedding party

All 30 glamping units are reserved for the wedding party for the weekend. Wedding pricing includes a minimum accommodation charge based on two adults per unit for two nights (for a 60-guest wedding, the example cost shown is £5,188). Children typically count at half the adult price, so the minimum can also be met with one adult and two children. Hot tub use is not included in the wedding accommodation price and is paid for separately at the standard online rate. Overflow guests can camp or bring campervans to the Primrose Paddock at £10 per person per night, or hire fully furnished belle tents through a trusted local supplier.

Wedding accommodation rates (per night)

  • Deluxe Lodges: from £130 for 2 adults, +£65 per additional adult, £25 per child
  • Shepherd's Huts 1 & 2: £110 per night for 2 adults
  • Shepherd's Hut 3: £130 per night for 2 adults
  • Hillview Wigwams: from £110 for 2 adults, +£55 per additional adult, £20 per child
  • Quantock & Vineyard Wigwams: from £76 for 2 adults, +£38 per additional adult, £19 per child
  • Lotus Belle Tents: from £58 for 2 adults, +£29 per additional adult, £14.50 per child

For a sample low-season Quantock Barn wedding with security, the wine inclusion, the security deposit and a couple of nights in Shepherd's Hut 3, the totals shown are £6,270 (low season) and £7,020 (high season). The full Quantock Barn & Lakeside equivalent is £6,770 (low season) and £7,270 (high season).

Sample itineraries

The Single-Day Away Day runs from a 9.30am arrival through a morning workshop, firepit lunch, farm tour or vineyard walk, an afternoon activity block (archery, team challenges or high ropes), and a 5pm departure. The 1-Night Leadership Offsite adds a full strategy session in the Owl Barn, a vineyard walk with wine tasting, a BBQ dinner and a firepit social on day one, followed by optional yoga or wild swimming, breakfast and an action-planning session on day two. The 2-Night Full Team Retreat is designed for 60 - 150 team members and includes a welcome evening, a full activity day with keynote and workshops, a gala dinner, a wellness-and-wrap-up morning and a closing session.

Wellness add-ons for teams

The wellness programme is a strong feature of the corporate offering. Day visits or overnight stays can include yoga and breathwork on the meadow, wild swimming and lakeside sauna rotations, firepit lunches, Pamper Pod treatments and a quiet workshop block in the barn. Four on-site ways to unwind are available: the spring-fed lake, the new lakeside sauna, the Pamper Pod with Abby (massage, reflexology, facials and bespoke treatments), and meadow or lakeside yoga with local instructors. Full details are on the wellness page.

A dedicated corporate brochure is available at secret-valley.co.uk/secret-valley-brochure, with further reading split into the corporate retreats UK, corporate offsites Somerset, private festival venue Somerset, nature retreats for teams, group glamping UK, festival-style corporate retreat, corporate retreat near London and private group venue guides. Food, Drink and Catering

Secret Valley is offered on a dry-hire basis for weddings and corporate events, with no corkage and no in-house caterer. Couples and event organisers can pick from trusted local suppliers, hire their own caterers, or bring in food trucks. Wine and cider from the estate's own vineyard are available on site, and the house wines are available "on tap" from the cellars. The two commercial kitchens - one in the Quantock Barn and a smaller one in the Owl Barn - connect directly to the dining spaces, so service flows naturally from kitchen to table.

For BBQs, firepit dinners and festival-style service, the estate is well set up with large outdoor seating areas, food stations, and space for multiple trucks. Plates, cutlery, glasses, chivari chairs and round tables are all included.

Visiting Secret Valley

The estate is open for glamping stays from the end of March to the end of October. Wedding and corporate events are hosted year-round, with the heated barns and accommodation units making off-season retreats viable. Wild swimming is seasonal, April to October. The Vineyard in Context

Secret Valley is an unusual combination: a working vineyard at the heart of a 400-acre estate that has built a complete hospitality business around it. The vineyard itself is integral to the offer - its wine is poured in the lodges, framed on the wedding tables, and tasted at the end of the farm tour - but the vineyard is best understood as one element of a complete Somerset countryside destination. For visitors planning a glamping stay, a wedding, a corporate retreat, a hen party or a wellness weekend, the combination of vineyard, lakes, two barns and 30 units of accommodation on a single private site makes Secret Valley one of the most versatile venues in the Quantock Hills.
