Pebblebed Vineyard at Darts Farm: A Devon Community Estate on the Exe Estuary

Pebblebed Vineyard is a community vineyard rooted at the heart of Darts Farm, the award-winning farm shopping and dining destination on the edge of Topsham in Devon. Founded on a deep belief in regenerative farming and provenance, the vineyard produces English still and sparkling wines from grapes grown on the Exe Estuary's ancient pebble-bed soils - the geological feature that gives the estate its memorable name. A visit to Pebblebed offers a chance to walk the rows, meet the winemakers, taste the wines where they are grown, and then return to the main Darts Farm site to eat, drink and shop among the very people who grew, reared, caught or crafted the produce on your plate.

The Pebblebed Story

Pebblebed sits within the wider 55-year story of Darts Farm, which celebrated its 55th anniversary in 2026 with a Summer Festival on the farm. While Darts Farm itself began as a working farm and farm shop, the vineyard has grown into a flagship experience that brings visitors closer to the land, the seasons, and the wine-making process.

The vineyard is located at Marianne Pool Farm, Clyst St George, near Topsham, Devon EX3 0NZ - just a few miles from the main Darts Farm shop, food hall, restaurants and wellness spa at Topsham, Devon EX3 0QH. This split-location setup means visitors can enjoy a tasting among the vines before returning to the main farm complex to eat, drink and shop.

A community harvest

Pebblebed describes its annual harvest as a true "community harvest" - a celebration of the vines and the people who care for them. The estate's harvest film, "off the vine and into wine," captures the rhythm of the picking and pressing season, and the sense of place that defines every bottle. The harvest is also the moment when Pebblebed's story is most visibly woven into that of Darts Farm: the grapes leave the vineyard and travel just a short distance to be pressed, fermented and bottled, before returning to the farm shop shelves as finished wine.

The Wines

Pebblebed produces a small, focused range of English wines crafted from grapes grown on its Devon soils. The current cellar includes both still and sparkling styles, with the Sparkling White regularly featured among the headline bottles on the Darts Farm wine list and online shop.

In the cellar at Darts Farm

The Pebblebed range is sold under the "From our Vineyard" section of the Darts Farm online shop, alongside hand-selected bottles from the wider Drinks Cellar - a curated list of small-scale, independent producers of craft beer, real ale, West Country cider and locally distilled British spirits. Pebblebed sits proudly at the top of that list as the home-grown house pour.

The "From our Cellar" category breaks the wider drinks offering into Still Wines, Sparkling Wine, British Spirits, Tasting Selections, and Craft Beer & Cider - and Pebblebed's bottles can be found across the still and sparkling shelves. The cellarmakers' ethos runs through every category: small-scale, independent, artisan producers who care as much about the provenance of their drinks as Pebblebed cares about its grapes.

Featured bottles

  • Pebblebed Sparkling Wine - the vineyard's award-winning fizz, available in cases for events and gifting.
  • Pebblebed Sparkling White 750ml - the classic celebratory pour, ideal with cheese boards, seafood and creamy Devon dishes.
  • Pebblebed Mulled Wine - small-batch mulled wine made from Pebblebed Red Wine and the highest-quality aromatic spices, perfect for winter evenings by the fire.

Awards

Pebblebed's wines have earned recognition on the English wine scene. In June 2026, the team announced two silver and two bronze medals at the Independent English Wine Awards (IEWA) - a strong endorsement of the quality coming from the Exe Estuary's pebble-bed soils. The win was widely celebrated and reinforces the South West's growing reputation as one of the most exciting regions in modern English wine.

Vineyard Tours & Tastings

The Pebblebed Tour & Tasting is the vineyard's signature experience, running every Thursday and Saturday from May through September. The 2026 season runs throughout the summer months, with tickets bookable online through the Darts Farm shop. Tours are timed to give visitors a genuine feel for the working vineyard at different points in the growing season, from the first leaves through to harvest.

What to expect

Tours are designed to give visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the vines, the harvest, and the winemaking - finishing, of course, with a tasting of the wines. The vineyard's regular opening days are Thursdays and Saturdays; bookings are taken via the events calendar, and the Pebblebed team can be reached on 01392 878 355 for enquiries.

Tour bookings are processed through the Darts Farm ticketing platform, with the 2026 season's tour booking page on the shop. Tickets include the guided walk through the vineyard and a flight of Pebblebed wines. As with all Darts Farm experiences, advance booking is strongly recommended during the summer season.

Group and private visits

Pebblebed is a working community vineyard, and the team welcomes groups, private tours and corporate visits by prior arrangement. Visitors are advised to contact the vineyard directly to discuss bespoke itineraries, harvest experiences, and trade enquiries. For those planning a longer stay, The George and the Dragon pub sits right next door to Darts Farm and is walking distance from the vineyard - an ideal base for a weekend of tours, tastings and estuary views.

Eat & Drink at Darts Farm

A visit to Pebblebed pairs naturally with Darts Farm's cluster of on-site eateries, each of which features Pebblebed wines on the list. The estate has long believed that the best food begins in the field, and the restaurants reflect that ethos from plate to glass.

The Farm Table

The Farm Table is Darts Farm's flagship restaurant, built around the idea of taking food off the farm and into the fire. Awarded two AA Rosettes for Culinary Excellence in 2024 - 2025, the kitchen celebrates the simplicity of beautiful ingredients grown, reared, caught and crafted on its doorstep. Open for lunch and supper - Monday to Tuesday 12pm - 3pm, Wednesday to Saturday 12pm - 3pm and 6pm - 9pm, and Sunday 12pm - 4pm - The Farm Table takes bookings online and showcases Pebblebed wines alongside ingredients from within a stone's throw of the kitchen.

The Yard Restaurant

Darts Farm's original eatery has been serving "farmers' breakfasts", hearty lunches, salads, daily specials and Devon scones for 20 years. Using the food hall as its larder, the Yard operates on a walk-in basis - open Monday to Saturday 8am - 5pm and Sunday 9:30am - 4pm, with seasonal adjustments for Easter and bank holidays.

Cow & Cacao Café

From smoothie bowls, banana bread and wood-fired baked eggs at breakfast to sourdough pizzas, Darts burgers and seasonal fish for lunch - all paired with homemade seasonal gelato and bean-to-bar chocolate. Cow & Cacao is walk-in only, open Monday to Saturday 9am - 5pm and Sunday 9:30am - 4pm.

The Terrace Bar

Overlooking the Exe Estuary, the Terrace Bar serves wood-fired pizzas, small plates, freshly made cocktails and local tipples - including a generous pour of Pebblebed wines. The summer "Live Sessions" music series runs on selected evenings, weather permitting, and tickets include a welcome drink.

The Shack

The go-to spot for barista coffee, homemade cakes, Chunks pasties and sourdough pizzas. Open Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm, Saturday 8am - 5pm and Sunday 9am - 4pm, with the grill closing at 3pm.

The Fish Shed

Fresh, seasonal seafood line-caught by local fishermen Dave Kerley and his wife Ondine. The Fish Shed serves everything from classic fish and chips to grilled John Dory with hand-dived scallops and samphire, Indonesian monkfish curry and Ondine's renowned poke bowls. Open Tuesday to Saturday 11:30am - 7pm (with later closing on Fridays).

The Cidery & Tastings Bar

Hosted in partnership with Sandford Orchards, the Cidery and Tastings Bar features a heritage orchard of 40 Devon varieties, a 100-year-old cider press, and a broad selection of West Country ciders - a perfect counterpoint to Pebblebed's wines.

The Drinks Cellar

Beyond Pebblebed, Darts Farm's Drinks Cellar stocks craft beer from local, family-run breweries; real ales; still and sparkling wines from independent English and European producers; West Country cider makers; and small-batch British spirits hand-distilled in the region. Curated tasting selections are also available, perfect for finding a new favourite to pair with Pebblebed bottles at home.

The Food Hall

Darts Farm's award-winning Food Hall is the beating heart of the estate, and the natural place to wander after a vineyard tour. The hall is divided into a series of specialist counters, each led by passionate makers and experts.

Master Butchers

One of the few farms still rearing a traditional herd of Red Ruby Devon cattle, Darts Farm's butchery team works with the whole animal, from roasting joints and Sunday steaks to free-range turkey, slow-grown beef, local lamb, free-range chicken, pork with provenance, free-range duck, bacon, sausages and outdoor cooking cuts. Christmas orders are taken in advance via the butchery team on 01392 878 203.

Deli & Cheesemongers

World-class farmhouse cheese, artisan charcuterie and a delicatessen counter brimming with produce from local and independent makers. The deli team shares expertise and recommendations with visitors, and the same team runs cheesemonger and deli assistant recruitment from the Topsham site.

Cow & Cacao Chocolatier

The on-site chocolatier is famous for its bean-to-bar chocolate, made from ethical and sustainable cacao, alongside small-batch seasonal gelato hand-crafted using local ingredients. Both feature in the hampers, gifts and tasting selections across the shop.

Seasonal Veg & Fish Shed

Six varieties of fresh, seasonal veg straight from the Darts Farm fields, plus line-caught fish from the Fish Shed. Both departments operate as part of the wider Food Hall, supporting local growers and fishermen.

Events at Darts Farm & Pebblebed

Darts Farm runs an extensive programme of seasonal events, and Pebblebed sits at the heart of much of the food-and-drink programming. The full events calendar - including vineyard tours, charity pick-your-own days, live music evenings and chef collaborations - is updated throughout the year.

Pebblebed Vineyard Tour & Tasting | 2026 Season

Recurring tours run every Thursday and Saturday from May to September. Tickets can be booked online, with featured dates throughout the season. The programme includes both vineyard walks and tastings, designed to showcase the current release of Pebblebed's still and sparkling wines.

Live Sessions on The Terrace Bar

Throughout the summer, the Terrace Bar hosts evenings of live music, sourdough pizzas, small plates, freshly-made cocktails and local tipples - including, of course, Pebblebed wines. Tickets include a welcome drink and run on multiple dates across the season.

Pick-Your-Own Sunflowers for Hospiscare

Each summer, the Darts Farm fields burst into colour with thousands of sunflowers, all in aid of Hospiscare, a local Devon charity. Visitors can pick their own stems (suggested donation £2.50 per stem) between 10am and 4pm daily, with all profits going to the charity.

Maize Maze

Returning in 2026 to raise money for the MND Association, the Darts Farm Maize Maze is a family favourite. Dates vary each year depending on the weather, with updates shared through social channels.

Kimchi Workshop with Rachel de Thample

On Thursday 17 September 2026, fermentation expert Rachel de Thample leads a hands-on kimchi workshop - a brilliant introduction to gut-friendly ferments. Two sessions run on the day: 10am - 12:30pm and 2:30pm - 5pm. Tickets are bookable online.

Run Club

Darts Farm hosts a free community run club twice a month, taking in the spectacular Exe Estuary trail. The 5K route is suitable for all abilities, with sign-up available online.

Cycen x BORA Live Product Experience

A drop-in product experience with BORA, hosted at Cycen - Darts Farm's new kitchen design and installation showroom, opening in summer 2026. Visitors can drop in any time between 12pm and 4pm, with no booking needed.

The Farm Table Chef Collaborations

The Farm Table regularly welcomes celebrated British chefs for special one-off suppers. Past and upcoming collaborators have included Neil Borthwick, Mitch Tonks and Mark Hix, with events typically selling out well in advance.

Hampers, Gifting & Weddings

Beyond the cellar and the kitchen, Darts Farm has built a substantial gifting business around its artisan producers - and Pebblebed wines feature prominently across the range.

Food, drink and chocolate hampers

From food hampers and drink hampers to chocolate hampers, cheese & charcuterie selections, steak hampers, dine-at-home hampers, birthday hampers, thank you hampers, celebration hampers, wedding hampers and wellness hampers, the Darts Farm range covers virtually every occasion. West Country hampers brim with the best produce from the region's makers, while dedicated corporate hampers offer gifting at scale for businesses.

Pebblebed at home

Wines from Pebblebed feature across the hamper range - including the Fizz, Cheese & Charcuterie Hamper, the Darts Farm Hamper (with raw honey, bean-to-bar chocolate and sparkling wine from Pebblebed), the West Country Cheese & Cider selection, the Date Night Steak Night hamper and the Ultimate Darts Farm Hamper, which brings together bean-to-bar chocolate, raw honey, sparkling and still wines from the Pebblebed Vineyard.

Gift cards

Darts Farm gift cards can be spent in the Food Hall, Gift Department, Deli, Butchers, Florist and Eateries. They can be purchased online, in-store or by calling 01392 878 209. Separate Wellness Spa gift cards are also available, in both physical and digital formats, valid for nine months.

Wellness Spa & Energy Hair

Darts Farm's recently refurbished Wellness Spa brings an oasis of calm to the estate, with a private infrared sauna and steam room for up to four people, Elemis face and body treatments, manicures and pedicures, hot wax, ear piercing and a dedicated teen menu. The spa is open Monday 9am - 6pm, Tuesday to Friday 9am - 7:30pm and Saturday 9am - 5pm. Bookings can be made online or by calling 01392 878 295.

Next door, Energy Hair is an award-winning hair salon, recently partnered with the Green Salon Collective as part of its sustainability journey. The salon is open six days a week, with evening hours on Thursdays.

The Farm Walk & Wetlands

Beyond the vineyard, Darts Farm's wider estate offers a network of farm walks, wetlands, fishing ponds and animal corners. The Pebblebed vineyard sits within this landscape, but the farm walk and wetlands offer a different perspective - sweeping views over the Exe Estuary, a chance to spot the resident birdlife, and the opportunity to meet the animals.

The Ruby Reds

One of the few farms to still keep a traditional herd of Red Ruby Devon cattle, Darts Farm's "Ruby Reds" graze on the banks of the River Clyst. They are part of a wider rare-breed effort on the estate, alongside Poll Dorset Ewes and British Saddleback pigs - both breeds that the Rare Breed Survival Trust classifies as needing protection.

Fishing ponds

The Darts Farm fishing ponds sit next to the bird hide, surrounded by native wildlife. Open 24 hours a day, the ponds stock Carp (including thirty-pounders), Perch, Bream, Trench and Grass Carp. Day tickets cost £10 for 12 hours or £20 for 24 hours, with concessions at £8 and £18 respectively. No barbed hooks or keep nets.

Cycle Hire & the Exe Estuary Trail

Darts Farm sits at the start and finish of the 26-mile Exe Estuary "City to Sea" loop. Cycle hire is available on-site, including Pashley British classics, children's Isla bikes, e-bikes (new for the season), tandems, trailers, tag-a-longs and child seats. Sustainability & Community

Darts Farm and Pebblebed are deeply embedded in the local Devon community. In the past year alone, the wider estate raised £63,882 for local charities and community initiatives, with the Sunflowers for Hospiscare campaign being a flagship fundraiser. Pebblebed's community ethos runs through everything from its harvest to its shared tables.

The estate's sustainability commitment extends across the farm, the vineyards and the food hall - including supporting local farmers to preserve native breeds, working with small-scale artisan producers, and championing seasonal, traceable produce. The farm's grazing cattle play a documented role in supporting the Exe Estuary's bird populations, a relationship featured on BBC Countryfile.

Plan a Day Around Pebblebed

A typical Pebblebed day might start with a vineyard tour in the morning, followed by lunch at The Farm Table and a wander through the award-winning Food Hall. In the afternoon, visitors can browse the farm walk and wetlands, meet the Ruby Red cattle, and stop by the Cow & Cacao chocolatier for a pre-dinner treat. Evenings can be spent on the Terrace Bar with live music and a flight of Pebblebed wines.

Seasonal events

Beyond the weekly tours, Darts Farm runs a packed calendar of seasonal events. The summer brings the Pick-Your-Own Sunflowers for Hospiscare and the Live Sessions music series; the autumn brings Pumpkin Fest and the harvest celebrations at Pebblebed; and the winter brings festive Sparkling Wine tastings and mulled wine by the fireside.
